Steps After the Storm: Staying Organized While Waiting. (Blog 3 of 3)

If the storm was large enough to damage your home, it will have most likely affected a large portion of your community. This means that insurance adjusters, contractors, tree companies, or anyone else you may need, will be SLAMMED. Here are a few simple tricks to help you stay organized to prevent further loss.

  • Take Photos: After it’s safe to go outside, take photos of any evidence of storm damage. To learn what to look for, click and read the previous blog. “Accessing the Damage”. The photos will be your evidence in the event that your insurance adjuster doesn’t get to your home until after clean-up has begun.
  • Save Receipts: Any items or services you purchase to prevent further damage will likely be reimbursable by your homeowner’s insurance. You will need receipts to prove you made said purchases and get your money back.
  • Stay Away from Storm Chasers: Storm chasers are the contractors that travel from town to town looking to sell you a quick service and leave town the next week, never to be heard from again. When your roof does begin to leak, you will not be able to get service from these people.
